As we anticipate the astronomical start of summer, which falls on the longest day of the year—Thursday, June 20th, 2024—we are reminded of the season's vibrant potential and transformative energy. This period marks not just a change in the weather but a shift in our daily lives, offering new opportunities for growth, renewal, and connection. The extended daylight hours invite us to spend more time outdoors, engage in social activities, and embrace the natural world, all of which can significantly uplift our spirits and improve our health.
Summer not only brings longer days filled with sunshine but also introduces unique challenges such as disruptions to daily routines, heightened social pressures, and physical discomforts from the intense heat. These factors can lead to sleep disturbances, increased anxiety, body image issues, and feelings of isolation, especially when it appears that everyone else is enjoying the season to its fullest.

June 2024 Support:
As we approach Father’s Day, we’re dedicating efforts to highlighting men’s mental health, an often overlooked but critical issue. Men are four times more likely to die by suicide than women, largely because they hesitate to seek help for mental health issues. Resources like ManTherapy.org provide a unique, tongue-in-cheek perspective on mental health specifically for men, offering tools like the 18-question "Head Inspection" survey to gain insights into one’s mental well-being. For those in immediate need, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is accessible by texting or calling 988, providing essential support when it's most needed.
May 2024 Fundraising Results
We’re pleased to share that last month, we raised and donated over $100 to Alternatives to Violence, a non-profit organization in Larimer County dedicated to providing shelter, advocacy, and resources for those affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. This support is a testament to the power of community and the impact we can make when we come together for a common cause.
Listening Choice
Lately, I’ve been inspired by the profound insights of Dr. James Hollis, an esteemed American Jungian psychoanalyst, author, and public speaker. His recent appearance on Andrew Huberman’s podcast, "How to Find Your True Purpose & Create Your Best Life", delves deep into discovering one’s true calling. I highly recommend this episode, available on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts, as well as many of Dr. Hollis’s other interviews for those seeking meaningful reflections on life and purpose.
Clinical Observations
In practice, we’ve noticed an increase in clients presenting with jaw and abdominal discomfort, often linked to stress. These areas are particularly sensitive to emotional pressures, with the jaw reflecting a fear of speaking openly and the abdomen, particularly the kidneys, being associated with deep-seated fears. Through intra-oral jaw work and visceral manipulation techniques, combined with lifestyle adjustments and boundary setting, we’ve seen significant improvements in these clients’ well-being.
My Continuous Improvement
On a personal note, I recently participated in a Lakota Native American ceremony called Hanbleceya, which means "cry for a vision." This six-day event involved prayer, community, sweat lodges (Inipi), song, fasting, and immersion in nature. It was a deeply connecting and enriching experience, leaving me both depleted and profoundly motivated. This journey of spiritual growth has further deepened my commitment to providing holistic and compassionate care.
You can book a session at any of our locations and join us as we embrace the summer season with open arms and a robust support system at Wholesome Therapies. Let’s make this summer enjoyable and truly enjoyable with the right care and support tailored just for you.
